There is something strange about the way we talk about the universe.
We look up at the night sky and speak about space as though it begins somewhere above us. We look at images of galaxies and nebulae and describe them as the universe, as if Earth—and everything living on it—exists somewhere else.
But where exactly would “somewhere else” be?
There is no boundary where Earth ends and the universe begins.
We are already in it.
The Universe Is Not Somewhere Else
The cosmos is not simply the collection of stars, planets, galaxies and vast spaces we see when we look beyond Earth.
Earth is part of that cosmos.
So are we.
The elements that make up our bodies belong to the same physical universe as everything else around us. The carbon in our cells, the oxygen moving through our blood, the calcium in our bones and the iron carried within us are not foreign to the cosmos.
They are expressions of it.
That changes the question.
Instead of asking where we are in relation to the universe, perhaps we should ask what it means to recognize that we have never existed outside of it.
We are not spectators observing the cosmos from a distance.
We are participants within it.
The Illusion of Separation
Human perception is extraordinarily useful.
It allows us to distinguish one thing from another: self from environment, Earth from sky, near from far, internal from external.
But the boundaries that help us navigate reality can also shape the way we understand it.
We begin to experience ourselves as isolated objects.
There is me.
There is the world.
And somewhere far beyond both of those things, there is the universe.
Yet the separation is not as absolute as it feels.
Every breath is an exchange between body and environment. Every meal becomes material incorporated into the body. Every atom participating in that process remains part of the same physical reality before, during and after we call some collection of it “us.”
Our individuality is real.
But individuality does not require separation from the whole.
A wave can have a recognizable form without becoming separate from the ocean.
Perhaps we can too.
Seeing Beyond the Surface
There is another kind of seeing that has fascinated human beings for centuries.
Intuition.
Inner knowing.
The ability to recognize patterns or possibilities before we can fully explain why we recognize them.
Across spiritual traditions, the third eye became a symbol for this kind of perception—not necessarily another physical eye, but a metaphor for seeing beyond what is immediately visible.
That doesn't require us to reject our senses.
It asks us to remember their limits.
Our senses give us one window into reality. Instruments give us another. Mathematics another. Intuition, reflection and consciousness raise questions of their own.
There may always be more to reality than what appears on its surface.
And sometimes expanding our understanding begins with becoming willing to look again.
What Does It Mean to Be a Cosmic Citizen?
Maybe being a Cosmic Citizen doesn't require escaping Earth.
Maybe it begins by recognizing where we already are.
You are standing on a planet moving through space.
You are living beneath a star.
You are surrounded by matter participating in processes that began long before you arrived and will continue long after you leave.
The cosmos isn't waiting beyond the atmosphere.
This is the cosmos.
And you are already living inside of it.
To call ourselves Cosmic Citizens, then, isn't about claiming that we are more important than we are.
It may actually be an invitation to humility.
We belong to something unimaginably larger than ourselves.
But we are not excluded from it.
From Ether Into Form
That realization became the idea behind Cosmic Citizen.
The nebula contained within the triangle represents the cosmos—not as some distant destination, but as the reality we already inhabit.
At its center is the eye.
The third eye.
A symbol of intuition, perception and our capacity to look beyond surface reality.
Together, they became a visual reminder of something that can be surprisingly easy to forget:
We are not separate from the Cosmos. We are in it.
That idea moved from thought, to symbol, to something that could physically be carried into the world.
